Working from Home with Casa Flores 6 x 50
The objective of Forum Cigar Club is to create a community where we can discuss, appreciate, explore and most importantly; enjoy the craftmanship, quality and tradition of the world of cigars.
Covid and the lockdowns have changed our lives in so many ways. I don’t want to underestimate all the hard times we’ve all had, however, there have been a handful of silver linings that have come out of it. One of them in my opinion, is the ability to enjoy a great cigar while working from home.
I’ve found two benefits of lighting up a cigar while working. It makes all the boring tasks of my work pass by so much quicker but most importantly, it has greatly improved my creativity to find new or better problem solving solutions.
The cigar I’m enjoying today is something a bit closer to home 😂. I’m literally going back home with a Mexican puro from the Valle de San Andres in the state of Veracruz.
Mexico is famous for many things around the world, but I’m actually glad that we still have some secrets under our sleeves. I happen to be passionate about two of these hidden gems; tobacco and coffee, and Veracruz’s terroir, happens to be perfect for both of them.
Andres Flores is a master blender who grows, blends and rolls his very own boutique cigars, Casa Flores. Today I’m enjoying a 6x50 parejo of his Linea AB. I discovered Casa Flores last time I went back home and it has now become part of my daily cigars rotation. His cigars are so boutique still that I usually get them freshly rolled, for what I suggest leaving them to rest and acclimate in your humidor for at least a few months.
It has a beautiful velvety not so oily wrapper. It was a good construction with a relatively loose draw -but in a good way. Pre-light you mainly get woody bitter notes with a strong spicy linger in your lips.
It has a great smoke production and draw with a medium + body. You get woody, nutty notes with a beautiful oily finish on the lips on the 1st third. The notes remain fairly consistent through out the whole cigar with only a increase on the spiciness around the halfway point.
I really appreciate the consistency of flavors for a daily cigar that I will be smoking while I work or do something else, as it allows me to pay a little bit less attention to it.
For pairing I went for medium roast coffee espresso, as I was still “on the clock”😊. I would definitely recommend any coffee drink with or without milk as it goes very well with the woody and nutty notes while balancing the bitterness and spicy.
But now I want to hear from you, have you ever had a Mexican puro? Do you know where Veracruz is? What is your go to daily cigar?
Let me know in the comment section below, but for now, I will say thank you so much for being here and I hope you have a great day.
